Strong Trade Market for Red Sox Star Despite Speculation: Is a Deal About to Happen?

The Boston Red Sox must make a difficult choice.

Kenley Jansen, the outstanding closer for Boston, has been the subject of trade rumors in recent weeks. In 2023, he made a strong debut for the team, but he’s costly and subject to trade.

Boston is looking for ways to reduce Jansen’s compensation because he is scheduled to earn $16 million in 2024 and was the team’s only All-Star in 2023. He might undoubtedly benefit the team, but it appears that Boston may be able to reach an agreement.

According to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, a trade may still be in the works even though Spring Training has officially begun.

“The Red Sox meanwhile have subtracted from the big-league team, but it’s still possible they will make more moves as the spring progresses,” McCaffrey stated.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies are the two largest teams that have surfaced as potential destinations for Jansen. After playing for the Dodgers for his first twelve seasons of his career, Jansen became one of the game’s top relievers.

Craig Kimbrel, a former Red Sox closer, signed a contract with the Baltimore Orioles early in the summer, but he was still with Philadelphia last season. Jansen might be a good fit for either team.

A trade including Jansen would undoubtedly somewhat increase the salary for the Red Sox. The Red Sox might then be able to sign one of the more costly free agents remaining on the market.

John Schreiber, another reliever, was traded by Boston on Saturday, and it appears that another trade may be in the works.
