A glitch that also cost a day of operating in Las Vegas last term has interrupted testing twice.
Following the most recent problems during pre-season testing in Bahrain, reigning F1 World Champion Max Verstappen has called for more inspections of drain covers before to race weekends.
Following the cancellation of the morning session on day two due to damage sustained by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, which caused the Scuderia to repair the floor, an additional red flag was raised early on the final day when a drain cover fell away, necessitating a change in the running schedule for a second day.
These problems stem from the disastrous event that occurred at the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November, which ended the first day of competition and left Carlos Sainz, Leclerc’s teammate, with eammaso much damage that after component adjustments, he was compelled to take a grid penalty.
Verstappen addressed the issues by saying to the media, which included RacingNews365: “In terms of opening up corners, it is a little bit worse with the ground-effect cars, but it also seems like we are driving in places that not many other cars are going.”
“Maybe these things could be checked a little more. We know that there may be a problem with these cars, and at some tracks, you know where the drain covers are, so before you drive, make sure everything is in working order. This will ensure that there are no more car wrecks.
In particular, given the budget cap that place as well, it is not nice when these things happen.”
