Dana White, the president of the UFC, has hailed former pound-for-pound champion Kamaru Usman as one of the most dominant welterweight champions.
After five title defenses, Usman only lost the welterweight championship at UFC 278 after defeating Tyron Woodley in UFC 235.The fans’ perceptions of Usman as a champion, however, were divided. They didn’t accept him and were critical of him all the time for different reasons. Now, Dana White, CEO of the UFC, lavished roses on The Nigerian Nightmare’s title run.
Dana White recently lauded Usman’s championship reign on Maxx Crosby’s podcast, saying that “The Nigerian Nightmare” never back down from a fight, even against his hardest opponents, sometimes twice.Usman (Kamaru) doesn’t receive the recognition he merits I’m not sure if it’s the supporters or something else,” White remarked.
He then added that “when Kamaru is no longer with us, I believe they would value it.”
Implying the departure of the champ.
That guy was never one to back down. He battled everyone and began rushing through men twice.Usman had a nasty temper.
White even said that Kamaru Usman had to fight Colby Covington twice to demonstrate that he could handle the hardest matches. One of the fiercest rivalries in the welterweight class was that one.Usman made five title defenses and ruled as the champion for almost three years as a result. Twice, against Covington and Jorge Masvidal, and once against Gilbert Burns, he successfully defended the title.
But in 2022, Leon Edwards defeated the boxer who was born in Nigeria to win the championship. In addition, he failed in his quest to regain the 170 pound title in the rematch. He lost when he briefly went up to middleweight to face Khamzat Chimaev.
