Wilson, permitted by the Broncos to explore other opportunities, is expected to be
released by the Broncos. Denver acquired the quarterback in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. He gave him a five-year contract extension worth $245 million, of which $165 million was guaranteed, including $124 million at signing. But Shoen has also said that they want to have a quarterback on board capable of going in there and winning some games if Jones isn’t medically cleared by the start of the season. As for Wilson, he seems to be drawing interest from around the league, in some cases potentially as a starter, where if he were to be assured of such a job, he’d likely get a better contract than if he were to sign as a backup.
