Las Vegas anticipates “close competition” between O’Connell and Minshew.
The quarterback coach of the Las Vegas Raiders is attending pro days while they look for a new quarterback. In an effort to evaluate young signal-callers, Rich Scangarello has been to Oregon and Michigan, where he is drafting at 13.
There are two quarterbacks competing for the top slot on the Raiders roster, though. While Aidan O’Connell showed promise towards the conclusion of the season, he also gave some terrible performances. As a result, the Raiders signed Gardner Minshew to a two-year contract to provide insurance at quarterback.
The two quarterbacks will square off in training camp if the Raiders are unable to select one in the draft. According to Mike Jones of the Athletic, the Raiders are fond of Aidan O’Connell but anticipate a fierce rivalry.
The Colts almost missed the playoffs the previous season, but Minshew helped keep them in the running for the AFC South. He will now play against Aidan O’Connell in Las Vegas. O’Connell, a 2023 rookie out of Purdue, replaced Jimmy Garoppolo and finished with a 5-5 record, 12 touchdown passes, seven interceptions, and a completion percentage of 62.1 percent. Minshew has shown he can start in this league with his 7–6 record, 15 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and a completion percentage of 66.2. O’Connell is liked by the Raiders, but this should be a competitive game. Minshew, at minimum, provides better depth.
The Raiders ought to select a quarterback in the draft as O’Connell and Minshew are the only two capable quarterbacks on the team. Naturally, that will increase competition even further, which is good for any quarterback room. May the victor be the finest man.
