Two days after they dismissed him, on Sunday the Chicago White Sox signed veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar to a major-league deal. In a simultaneous action, the White Sox designated right-hander Touki Toussaint for assignment. After Andrew Benintendi, Dominic Fletcher, and Luis Robert Jr. in the outfield, Pillar is anticipated to play as depth. Before being dismissed by Chicago, Pillar batted.250 in 18 spring training games with five RBIs.
In the final spring training game against the Colorado Rockies, he was scheduled to start at leadoff and play right field on Sunday. 35-year-old Pillar batted. In 81 games with the Atlanta Braves last season, he hit 228 with nine home runs and 32 RBIs.

In 1,114 games with the Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Braves, he is a 257 hitter with 106 home runs and 423 RBIs. In 77 career games (39 starts), he is 14–14 with a 5.21 ERA for the Braves, Los Angeles Angels, Guardians, and White Sox.
