Sad News As Boston Red Sox Lost a player to…Read more

The Boston Red Sox can’t get a break. The squad has a shockingly dominant pitching staff and is two games above.500. While many would have signed up for that at the start of the season, the squad is currently in last position, with several key players sidelined due to injuries.

Unfortunately, the blows keep coming. On Sunday, the Red Sox announced that first baseman Triston Casas had been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left rib injury. Boston will promote catcher Tyler Heineman from Triple-A to replace Casas’ place on the roster.

Boston Red Sox place Triston Casas on the injured list.

Casas appeared to be uncomfortable during his first-inning at-bat against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. He finished the at-bat (and walked), but did not come out to play defense after the inning.

When manager Alex Cora talked with media after the game, Casas was still undergoing tests. However, his initial perspective was not optimistic.

During the post-game press conference, Cora stated, “He’s not doing well…” We’re keeping an eye on him and will have more information later tonight. When he entered the dugout, he replied, ‘I can play defense, but you need somebody to hit for me.'”

Sunday’s news validates the manager’s concerns about the young slugger. While the Red Sox have battled with crucial player injuries throughout the season, losing Casas is still a devastating blow. The 24-year-old leads the team in OPS (.857) and is also among the leaders in RBI and home runs.

Instead of anchoring the lineup, Casas will join Trevor Story, Tyler O’Neill, and Vaughn Grissom as injured position players. This doesn’t even include that the team’s top batter, Rafael Devers,

has been out of the lineup recently due to a bone bruise in his left knee.

Bobby Dalbec replaced Casas at first base in Saturday’s game and is anticipated to see more playing time in his absence. Malbec has struggled significantly in recent years. While Casas has upside and a pedigree as a former top prospect, his placement on the injured list could be deadly for the Red Sox in 2024.
