Breaking:Former Chiefs Tight End finally said Goodbye to Football After…

Matt Bushman, a former Chiefs tight end who spent the last two years in Kansas City and won two Super Bowl rings, just announced his retirement from football.

Bushman admitted on The Y’s Guys podcast, which is dedicated to BYU athletics, that he is moving on with the idea that his NFL career is over. While he stated that he would be open to joining a squad, he is taking steps to prepare for the next stage of his life.

During the podcast, which can be downloaded via this link, Bushman reflects on his playing history and gradually realizes he has a shot to play in the NFL. He recorded 1,719 receiving yards in three seasons at BYU, establishing himself as one of the best tight ends in program history.

Despite his limited playing time with the Chiefs, he appreciates the opportunity. He did play in one game this season, recording seven snaps. Bushman made it clear that “this isn’t a retirement announcement, but I’m taking those steps to move on.”

Bushman stated that if the appropriate opportunity presented itself, he would “take it.” However, he thought it was time to “take the next step and move away from football” after Kansas City declined to re-sign him.

With Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Irv Smith Jr. and incoming rookie Jared Wiley on the depth chart, it’s hard to imagine Bushman finding a way back to the Chiefs. Perhaps another team will give him a call down the line, but he’ll forever be a two-time champion regardless.
