Croy 10k is set to make it debut as new running event on athletics calendar in Inverness
A MAJOR new athletics event is set to get up and running for the first time next month.
Croy 10k takes place on Saturday, June 1.Croy 10k takes place on Saturday, June 1.
The Croy 10k hopes it becomes a regular feature on the athletics calendar in the Highlands when it makes its debut on Sunday, June 1.
The event is being organised by Chilled Running, who recently organised the Moray Marathon and 20-mile races.
This is the first time that they will be organising a 10k event where they are expected around 300 runners to take part.
Race director Amy Anderson says they were keen to increase the number of running events available to take part in the Highlands.
She says preparations are going well for its debut in two weeks time.
She said: “After putting on the Moray Marathon in Elgin, we thought that it would be nice to put on a shorter distance event too.
“Not everyone wants to do a marathon and 10k races are more accessible to runners.
“The great thing about 10k running is that it is a great way to introduce people to running too.
“There aren’t many 10k races in the Highlands apart from the Baxter’s 10k at Loch Ness Marathon Festival of Running and the Nairn 10k.
“The course has potential for being quite fast, five kilometres of the course are downhill with a tough half mile finishing back into the village.
We have around 180 entries so far and are aiming for around 300 runners to take part.
“We are looking to make the Croy 10k an annual event.”
The Croy 10k is an accurately measured and approved race, all on road The race will begin at Croy Village Hall in Croy and runs out towards Clephanton. The route follows scenic country roads down towards Loch Flemington before coming into Croy Village and finishing at Pure Bakery.
Chilled Running says it is also considering launching another a new 10k event later in the year and a half marathon event next year.
Online entries to the event can be made using EntryCentral by Saturday, May 31.
