Detroit Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider and Germany suffered a frustrating end Tuesday to what started as a promising run at the World Championship, losing 2-1 in a shootout to host Denmark in a Group B battle for the fourth and final spot in the medal round.
Denmark (3-1-0-3, W-OTW-OTL-L) finished with 11 points and advances to the quarterfinals Thursday against Canada. Germany (3-0-1-3, 10 points) ended up dropping four in a row after winning its first three games.

Nicolaj Ehlers, who arrived in time for the game following the Winnipeg Jets’ second-round playoff loss to Dallas, tied it at 1-1 at the 10-minute mark of the third period. Denmark outscored Germany 2-0 in the shootout.
Seider, Germany’s captain, was a workhorse. He logged 26:28 in ice time and registered a game-high six shots on goal.
